Translate DBC content
Translate between German and English with local language packs, review the result, and save a separate revision.
Open a DBC and choose the languages
Open a DBC file, then select Translate in the toolbar. Choose the From and To languages: German to English or English to German.
Translation becomes available after a DBC is open. It processes the database locally once the required language pack is installed.
Install the language pack once
- Open Translate > Models.
- Install the language pack for the direction you selected.
- Wait for installation to finish, then check that the pack is available before starting translation.
Each translation direction uses a separate Argos pack. Packs are downloaded on demand and stored in the app data directory; they are not bundled with the installer. Internet access is required for this initial download.
Install the reverse-direction pack if you also need to translate back. This setup is optional for viewing, editing, comparing, and analysing logs.
Choose what to translate
Select the content you need: comments, value labels, shared value tables, or string attributes. Leave identifier renaming off when you want message and signal names to stay as they are.
Open Advanced if you want optional message or signal renaming. The bundled automotive glossary helps with technical phrasing, but you should review the resulting names and text.
Run and review the translation
- Select Translate and follow the progress.
- Review the summary and sample changes shown when processing finishes.
- Select Save and choose an output path. Use a different filename to keep the source revision.
- Open the saved result and compare it with the original.
Finishing the translation does not write a file until you choose Save. The translation preview shows sample changes; use the saved-file comparison for a fuller review.
If translation cannot start
Check that a DBC is open, a translation option is selected, and the pack for the selected language direction is installed. For a failed pack download, check connectivity and available disk space, then retry from Models.
See installation and activation help if the app itself cannot start or activate.
