Terms

Terms for DBC Utility.

These terms cover use of the DBC Utility website, checkout, license management, protected downloads, updates, and paid desktop software.

Last updated: August 5, 2026.

Agreement

By using the DBC Utility website, purchasing a license, downloading the desktop app, or using license services, you agree to these Terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Refund Policy. If a separate signed agreement applies, that agreement controls where it conflicts with these Terms.

Product and license

DBC Utility Pro is paid desktop software for CAN and CAN FD DBC viewing, editing, comparison, multiplexing, and layout workflows. A paid license grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the desktop app according to the license terms shown at purchase and in the product documentation. License keys remain lifetime accessible while the related license entitlement is valid and has not been refunded, reversed, revoked, or disabled for abuse.

Activations

Unless a different written agreement says otherwise, one DBC Utility Pro license allows activation on up to two devices. Activation requires a valid license key and may require internet access for validation, protected downloads, reactivation, or support checks.

Updates

A DBC Utility Pro purchase includes one year of updates from the successful payment date. Your license key remains accessible after that period, and eligible versions remain usable under these Terms, but updates released after the one-year update window may require a new purchase or paid upgrade.

Payments and refunds

Checkout and license-key delivery are handled through Dodo Payments. Prices, taxes, and payment methods may be shown during checkout. Refund requests are handled under the Refund Policy, and a refunded purchase may cause the related license to be revoked or disabled.

Permitted use

You may use DBC Utility for lawful engineering, development, review, validation, and related desktop workflows. You are responsible for the DBC files, CAN data, logs, outputs, decisions, and systems you use with the software.

Offline DBC processing

DBC viewing, editing, comparison, multiplexing review, and layout analysis run locally in the desktop app. DBC files, CAN logs, signal definitions, compare results, and edited DBC content are not uploaded, stored, or sent to DBC Utility servers by those offline workflows. Internet connectivity is needed for checkout, protected downloads, license activation, license validation, license recovery, updates, website analytics, and support communication.

Restrictions

You may not share, sell, lease, sublicense, or redistribute license keys or protected installers; bypass licensing, activation, or download controls; use the service to violate law or third-party rights; interfere with the website or licensing systems; or copy, modify, reverse engineer, decompile, or create derivative works from the software except where allowed by law.

Updates and availability

DBC Utility may provide fixes, package changes, download changes, or licensing service changes over time. Website, checkout, download, and license services may be unavailable during maintenance, provider outages, security incidents, or operational changes.

No safety certification

DBC Utility is an engineering productivity tool. It is not represented as a certified safety, compliance, diagnostic, or vehicle-control system. You remain responsible for independent review, validation, testing, release approval, and compliance for any vehicle, embedded, production, or safety-related use.

Third-party services

The website and licensing flow may rely on providers such as Cloudflare, Dodo Payments, Google Analytics, Telltide, email providers, and other infrastructure services. Third-party services may have their own terms and privacy practices.

Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, the website, licensing services, downloads, documentation, and software are provided as is and as available, without warranties of uninterrupted operation, error-free behavior, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, DBC Utility and BusAudit are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, vehicle downtime, or production issues arising from use of the website, licensing services, documentation, downloads, or software.

Termination

Access to licensing services, protected downloads, or license activation may be suspended or terminated if a license is refunded, payment is disputed or reversed, these Terms are violated, abuse is detected, or access must be limited for legal or security reasons.

Changes to these Terms

These Terms may be updated as the product, checkout, licensing service, or website changes. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
