Workspace guide / v2.0.3
Analyse ASC and BLF logs
Map your DBC definitions to recorded CAN traffic, inspect decoded signals, and review plots and statistics.
Open a recording
Select Log Analyzer on the home screen, then use Open Log to choose an ASC or BLF recording. Keep the DBC definitions for that recording available for mapping.
v2.0.3 supports recorded ASC and BLF files. Log encoding and signal export are not included in this release.
Map the DBC files
- Add the DBC definitions required for the recording.
- Check which recorded channels the definitions belong to and configure the channel mapping for your session.
- Review decoded frames to check that the definitions match the traffic.
A recording can contain several channels or database revisions. Match the definitions to the source traffic before interpreting a decoded value.
Inspect the trace
Use trace filters to narrow the frames you are reviewing. Bookmark rows you want to return to, and inspect the selected frame alongside its decoded signal values.
Review Unknown IDs to find traffic without a matching definition. Check the frame ID, channel mapping, and supplied DBC revision when an expected frame does not decode.
Plot signals and review statistics
Select the decoded signals relevant to your investigation and add them to a plot. Use the statistics view alongside the trace and plot to review their behaviour over the recording.
The DBC definition determines how a raw payload becomes a physical value. If a value looks wrong, inspect the signal's start bit, length, byte order, scale, and offset in the viewer.
Configure the session
Use channel mapping and analysis settings when working with multiple sources. Log Analyzer preserves its session state when you switch to another work tab and return.
Analysis runs locally. Internet access is still needed for licensing, app downloads, and updates as described in the license documentation.
If frames remain undecoded
- Check that the recording is an ASC or BLF file supported by this release.
- Check the channel mapping and the frame IDs covered by each DBC.
- Inspect Unknown IDs for missing definitions.
- Compare the recording's expected database revision with the file you supplied.
Continue with DBC inspection or comparison of database revisions.
